SkinCortex

Mechanism

Elastin

Elastic dermal fibers that allow skin to recoil; degraded with cumulative photoaging.

Review

What it is

Elastin fibers give skin its snap-back. Photoaging causes elastin to accumulate as disorganized 'solar elastosis' rather than functional fibers.

Loss of functional elastin contributes to slack texture and fine lines.

Why it matters

Elastin remodeling is a key reason why photoaged skin behaves differently from chronologically aged skin.
