Mechanism

Keratinocyte Turnover

The rate at which skin cells proliferate, differentiate, and shed; accelerated in psoriasis.

Review

What it is

In healthy skin, keratinocytes mature from the basal layer to surface in roughly four weeks.

In psoriasis, immune-driven signaling shortens this dramatically, producing immature corneocytes that scale prematurely and form plaques.

Why it matters

Turnover is a central node in psoriasis biology and in retinoid and AHA discussion.
